James, in a final attempt to conquer Lily’s heart, buys a guitar. She once told him she loves muggle music, especially a band called The Beatles, so he thinks if he sings his love for her, she will finally fall for him. Lily is not happy when he comes into the common room on the first of September with a guitar
'As a Head Boy you have to be an example, you can't go around singing everywhere!', she says.
But James is determinated to try. With the help of his fellow friends, they form a band called ‘The Marauders’. The Gryffindor common room is full of The Marauder’s music on free periods, with a lot of complaint on Lily’s part, who can’t concentrate because she usually studies in a corner near the window.
Near Christmas ‘The Marauders’ announce their first official show in the common room. Lily, dragged by her closest friend Donna, goes to the show, ready no to enjoy it. She’s immediately surprised when she hears them, James is singing her favourite band’s songs. Before singing ‘And I Love Her’, James dedicate the song ‘to the love of my life’. Lily, heart pounding fast, refuses to believe the sensation in the tip of her stomach are butterflies. James is staring at her while smiling and singing that song doesn’t help, and she can’t fight a timid little smile. Does this means she likes James Potter? No, she can’t like him.
